Hello chaps,
Do you need to replace the chain and front sprocket to "match" a higher tooth rear sprocket or will the chain adjusters absorb the difference?..

You need to replace the chain, front sprocket and rear sprocket with the shaft drive assy. from a 1989 BMW R100GS.
It is commonly accepted as best practise to replace chain and sprocket as a set, this avoids excessive wear on the new sproket by the old chain.
or something.
also, if you've changed the rear sprocket you'll have to inform your insurance company of the modification or you'll be totally uninsured should you have an accident and run over a orphan.
Would it be ok, if you had an accident that didn't involve orphans?
Yes, you'd only be un-insured if you hit Orphans, Kittens or people called Ronald.
Fair do.
God help you if you hit an orphaned kitten called Ronald.
They lock you in the tower of London.
Just replace the whole bike.
With a BMW.
Car.
No a BMW bike will do due their wonderful good sense in fitting them with shaft drive!
