Today’s burning question is easy. No, it isn’t who will win the upcoming election or whether our English cricket and rugby teams are really up to it.
It’s much simpler than that : who the hell are all you people ?
Yes, you, those who have viewed these somewhat erratic and rambling memoirs.
At the last count, over 5,000 hits have been logged on this blog and it’s only been going since just before last Christmas.
Now, I am well aware that in terms of the world wide web, this is small beer, so small a child could drink it and feel no ill-effects.
Even so……………
Members of this small site, who know me well, can account for only a fraction of these hits. The rest must have come through the auspices of Stumbleupon, which gets a feed from every posting.
Don’t get me wrong – I am delighted and humbled by such a (to me) regular following, which I notice from the figures is getting larger by the day.
But why ?
I mean, look at it from my point of view :
When the Great and Good webmaster of this site introduced this new-fangled blog feature, I thought it might amuse my various friends on here to read about some of my shameful doings in the ad world and consequently rip the piss out of me, which by the way, is the raison d’etre of this site.
I can safely say that I know and have met every member of Sparkies and in the real world, too. (This is no Farcebook.)
So forgive me if I am consumed with curiosity about all of you who seem to regularly check in for the latest post.
Now, before you say I should get out more, to which I would heartily agree, I must tell you that my contact with other homo sapiens is increasingly restricted to the internet. Hence my not unnatural pleasure at this unexpected interest.
Luckily, I am old enough, wise enough and well-advised enough not to fall into any of the web-inspired honey-traps which abound.
And as sure as eggs is eggs, (which old maxim has been disproved many times) someone is bound to come along and tell me it is just a result of bots or viruses or some other accursed computer thingy.
But I simply can’t help wondering what it is about my meandering scribblings which interest people as much (or as little, if you like) as they seem to.
Anyone can read these pieces, without being a member of Sparkies.
But to make any comment, you do have to sign up, a simple matter of selecting a username and your email address.
Can I ask a favour ?
If you have been a regular reader, would mind awfully doing just that and then leaving a comment, any kind of comment, but something which would give me pause for thought, further reasons to keep writing, an insight into what intrigues or pleases people these days….. and so on ?
I only ask because I wish to know.
And it would make an old man very happy.
I thankee all.
Archie
