I had a problem recently where the tacho on the R1 was jumping to 7k revs and back down to zero whilst riding into work.
After a brief look on t'internet I found that it's a fault code indicating a problem with the Exup valve (possibly sticking).
I've also found a useful article about maintaining and cleaning the Exup valve which I'll post a link to in a seperate thread.
